Journey of a Lifetime

GEI Staff Stories - Content Team India

2020 has been challenging and completely unprecedented for all of us at GEI. We have collectively overcome a lot of adversity to come out as stronger versions of ourselves.

Within our small content team, this adversity was perhaps best exemplified by Saman’s story. Sheikh Saman had joined the Content Team in February and was just settling in when the lockdown was imposed towards the end of March.

To go back to her hometown in Jammu and Kashmir with her mother and younger brother, Saman had to face crises that we can only read in books or watch in action movies. After an arduous train journey lasting for 6 days, she was stuck with her family in the mountains for 3 more days when her bus couldn’t go ahead because of landslides.

Her troubles weren’t over yet! She and her family had nothing to eat for 3 days before the buses started moving despite smaller landslides. Adding to her problems, she had to quarantine in a Srinagar hotel for 7 days before reaching home.

Amid all this, GEI had stood beside her like a rock. They  provided her transport to ensure she reached the train station safely and assured to co-ordinate with the police officials as well, if at all needed. That’s not all, she was offered extra leaves until she arrived home, was supported financially and was checked in on regular intervals by her manager throughout the journey.

I feel blessed to be working for an organisation where they just don’t give up on their employees in the times of need. I'll always be thankful to each one of them for going an extra mile to help me reach home safe and sane. ” - Sheikh Saman, Executive, Content Team India

While Saman’s experience was spine-chilling, it wasn’t easy for the rest of us in Hyderabad. With the city’s record-breaking rains, we had to put up with frequent power cuts and floods near our homes.

But what doesn’t kill us makes us stronger.

Despite regular power cuts and limited resources, we actually increased the production of outreach and SEO articles. We even found time to upskill ourselves through content marketing tutorials, and sessions on featured snippets, and SEO techniques. We also improved our productivity through Pomodoro sessions, content templates, and target personas.

We are proud to be the smallest and probably the youngest team in the company. We are sure that our growth in the future will be driven by our never-say-die spirit.
